Opponent Injury News: Liverpool could welcome back Curtis Jones but miss Thiago Alcantara vs Manchester United
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will have a few concerns regarding his players’ fitness when he travels with them to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United this weekend.
According to The Mirror, the Reds have some good news on the Curtis Jones front. The youngster looks set to return to the first-team fold after being rested for the last league clash against Watford.
It is all however all well at Anfield. Spanish superstar Thiago Alcantara looks set to miss out and will watch the game from the sidelines alongside Harvey Elliott.
Thiago’s absence hands United an opportunity to seize the initiative. The Reds midfield lack imagination in the Spaniard’s absence and that could provide Ole Gunnar Solskajer’s side with the opening they need to dominate proceedings.
He missed Liverpool’s last six games and is also yet to return to training. This all but rules out him making a surprise appearance at the Theatre of Dreams. Apart from long term absentee Harvey Elliott, Liverpool have an otherwise healthy squad to choose from. Klopp’s side is discovering its mojo and could prove difficult to top if they keep going.
Solskajer meanwhile has a number of players who could miss out at the weekend. Raphael Varane, Anthony Martial and Fred all look set to miss out.
Marcus Rashford is recovering from a dead leg while Bruno Fernandes has also been named doubtful. The United boss will need to set up his squad to not just stunt Liverpool but also beat them. It could pave the way for us to turn around our season that has so far represented a mixed bag of results.
