Paul Robinson backs Dean Henderson to leave Manchester United on loan in January

According to Football Insider (h/t The Metro), Paul Robinson has backed Manchester United star Dean Henderson to leave the club on loan in the January transfer window.

The English international had endured a difficult start to the season that has not just seen him struggle for fitness but also lose out to David de Gea for the starting goalkeeper’s spot.

Henderson looked set to usurp De Gea as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper last season. The veteran Spaniard has, however, hit back with a vengeance and looks to be in top form, making the spot between the sticks his own.

With playing time at a premium, Robinson believes Henderson will be best served going out on loan when the window opens in the new year. Playing regularly will aid his cause of being included in the England World Cup squad for 2022.

“Henderson needs to play with a World Cup coming up.’

Robinson goes on to add that while loaning out Henderson is not ideal, it is a prudent thing to do given the situation. It will certainly aid his development better than just sitting on the bench.

“It is not an ideal situation having him sat on the bench though so I think he’ll go out on loan.”

Robinson further adds that going out this upcoming winter will not spark the end of Henderson’s career at United. In fact, he believes the 24-year-old will succeed De Gea as the United number one sometime down the line.

“I cannot see Henderson leaving permanently because I think he’s the long-term solution for them.”

Henderson is an excellent goalkeeper who is yet to make the position his own at Old Trafford. With De Gea growing older, the young Englishman could be groomed to take over as the club’s first-choice shot-stopper. Whether he is willing to wait that long remains to be seen.
