Transfer News: AS Roma keeping tabs on Manchester United star Victor Lindelof
According to the Italian publication Calciomercato, AS Roma are keeping tabs on Manchester United star and Swedish international Victor Lindelof.
The 27-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford following the arrival of Raphael Varane. He is effectively the third choice centre-back in the Red Devils squad
The chances of the Swede starting above Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane when both players are fit is remote. Despite being a dependable player for his nation, Lindelof has often struggled to impress consistently for his club.
Italian giants AS Roma could provide him with an escape route and an opportunity to play regular football. The Italians are interested in securing the defender’s services.
They have, however, been put off by United’s valuation of €25million. Whether the Red Devils will accept a lower fee or if Roma is desperate enough to fork out the amount needed remains to be seen.
A move to the Italian capital will reunite Lindelof with former manager Jose Mourinho. The 58-year-old was the one who brought Lindelof to United back in 2017 while he was in the Old Trafford hot seat.
Mourinho’s Roma fell to a shock 6-1 defeat to minnows Bodo/Glimt in the UEFA Conference League last night. The Portuguese magician went on to lament the lack of quality made available to him in the post-match press conference.
Signing Lindelof will certainly strengthen one key position for Mourinho. Whether United are willing to let a rather convenient backup player leave for what is a pittance remains to be seen.
