Transfer News: Everton keen to make a move for Manchester United star Jesse Lingard in January
According to The Daily Star, Premier League side Everton could be set to make a move for Manchester United star Jesse Lingard in the upcoming winter transfer window.
The 28-year-old is not a first XI star at the club and has largely had to settle for a spot on the bench. He ha however impressed off the bench and has scored two goals and made one assist in just seven appearances totalling 146 minutes.
Lingard looked to have regained his mojo following an excellent second half of the season on loan to West Ham United. It however did little to improve his chances of breaking into the United first XI.
Everton could be set to offer the English international a way out. They are seeking a loan for the player before securing him permanently down the line.
Toffees boss Rafael Benitez is a fan of Lingard and would welcome the opportunity to manage him at Goodison Park. Lingard is currently in the final few months of his career and will be a free agent next summer.
United did put an offer out for Lingard to sign. The midfielder however chose against extending his deal and United now risk losing the player on a free.
Securing a new deal with Lingard will aid United financially. Losing a player who is currently at the top of his game for nothing would be very poor business.
Lingard has done well to rekindle a career that looked to be flagging. Currently, at his prime, he has the right to seek a move away should it secure him regular playtime. Whether that will be to Everton remains to be seen.
