Transfer News: Manchester United joined by Barcelona in the chase for Leicester City ace Youri Tielemans
According to The Sun, Barcelona are keen on a transfer for Leicester City star Youri Tielemans amidst interest from Manchester United.
The Belgian international joined the Foxes in 2019 for a fee in the region of £40million and has been sensational for the club since then. The 24-year-old has helped the club secure two Top 6 finishes in the last two seasons while he also scored a wonderful goal in the FA Cup final last season to help the Midlands club win the competition.
However, the midfielder is now in the final two years of his contract at the King Power and is not looking to extend it despite Leicester’s willingness to get him to put pen to paper on a new deal.
Manchester United are eyeing a deal for him, especially after Paul Pogba has failed to commit his future to Old Trafford so far. The Frenchman has a little over 6 months on his contract at United and could leave as a free agent at the end of the season.
Barcelona to hijack United’s move for Tielemans?
Thus, in such a scenario, signing a Premier League seasoned midfielder like Tielemans would be a really smart move by the Red Devils. However, Barcelona have also joined the race now.
The Blaugrana club are interested in securing a transfer for the Belgian but do not have the funds to offer a transfer fee after they posted a £408million loss after tax last season. Thus, their angle is to sign the player on a free transfer when his contract expires in 2023.

However, it is said that the Foxes might try to churn out some money for their prized asset given that United, Liverpool, and Real Madrid are also interested in signing the player.
The Foxes are thought to be willing to let go of their man for £46million – a fee United should stump up as soon as possible if they do hope to add the midfielder to their ranks.
