Manchester United on red alert after fans plan protest ahead of Liverpool game
According to the Daily Star (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United are on red alert as fans are planning a protest ahead of the Liverpool game on Sunday.
A similar protest was plotted when the two clubs faced each other at Old Trafford at the start of May after the club attempted to take part in the European Super League.
Although those plans were scrapped eventually, fans walked onto the pitch in the stadium with banners and flares while some fans also clashed with the police. The situation got so out of hand that the United players were prevented from leaving the Lowry Hotel to get to the stadium.
The match was eventually called off. It is now believed that something similar could be pulled off again ahead of the huge derby on Sunday against Liverpool. It is thought that some fans have used social media to create awareness about a protest.
Thus, the club are ‘consulting’ with authorities, including the Greater Manchester police, to ensure that the required security is in place.
The Manchester-based outfit have endured a patchy form in recent weeks, with the club dropping points for a third consecutive week in the league after losing to Leicester City this weekend. The Red Devils are yet to win a trophy under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and have not lifted the league title since 2013.

Thus, the air around Old Trafford is not filled with optimism anymore and the club are fearing that the animosity of the fans with the Glazers is only going to intensify after the protest.
However, regardless of what happens off-the-pitch, Solskjaer will need to pick up a positive result against Liverpool if they hope to remain with the chasing pack for the league title this season.
