Manchester United ready to provide Ole Gunnar Solskjaer with war-chest in January transfer window
According to the Daily Star (h/t The Express), Manchester United are set to hand Ole Gunnar Solskjaer £70million to make signings in the January transfer window provided they are still competing for the Premier League title.
The 13-time Premier League champions have not tasted league success since Sir Alex Ferguson hung his boots in 2013. His disciple, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, is now facing an uphill task of achieving something that has not happened in the last decade.
However, he has been backed massively to do so. Nearly £150million was ploughed into the transfer market this summer as United acquired marquee stars like Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho, and club legend Cristiano Ronaldo.
Although they did start the season well, their performances against Aston Villa and Everton were eye-opening. The defeat to Leicester City on Saturday also did not do any favours for the Norwegian.
United to make additions in January?
Regardless, the title is not completely out of sight yet, and a lot could happen over the next 8-9 months. In fact, if the 48-year-old boss manages to keep the Red Devils in a title race by the end of 2021, United would be open to making more additions to the squad.
The club are set to hand £70million to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in January to bring in additional players to boost the quality within the squad, provided that the Manchester-based outfit are still competing for the league at that point in time.

It is also thought that the money has not been earmarked for any player in particular as club chiefs will take a look at where the necessary reinforcements are to be made, according to the Daily Star (h/t The Express).
Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips and West Ham’s Declan Rice have been linked with a move to Old Trafford but it remains to be seen who United use the cash for. Nevertheless, it must be used smartly, as Solskjaer looks to win the club their first major trophy since 2017.
