Transfer News: Ousmane Dembele is linked to Manchester United with his contract expiring in the summer
According to Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo via Sport Witness (h/t Football365), Ousmane Dembele is linked to Manchester United and fellow Premier League clubs as his contract is set to expire. His contract will expire in the summer of 2022 meaning the forward could leave on a free next year.
Once considered an exciting and rising young superstar, Dembele’s growth has hit a wall at Camp Nou. Following his move from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of £121 million, injuries have plagued the French forward.
Unfortunately, the 24-year-old sustained a knee injury during the Euro 2020 in France’s 1-1 draw to Hungary. However, he has returned to training recently ahead of Barca’s match against Valencia.
The report also states that talks over a new contract have been taking place for quite some time. But both parties have not reached an agreement as the Catalan club wants to reduce the winger’s current salary.
The Spanish giants are in financial turmoil at the moment which could explain the terms they offered. With the negotiations showing no progress, the club suspects his agent is buying time so that they can leave on a free transfer.
The Blaugrana also doubts that his agent may have given hints to other clubs for a possible departure and are offering him to clubs without their total knowledge. The French national can agree on a pre-contract agreement with another club should he decide to leave.
