Manchester United star Jesse Lingard reveals his next club move will not be affected by England selection
Speaking in an interview (h/t Daily Mail), Manchester United ace Jesse Lingard has revealed that being selected for England will not make him consider a potential move.
The 28-year-old, who had fallen down the pecking order at United last season, performed incredibly well with West Ham on a loan spell during the second half of the season.
His performances with the Hammers also put him in contention to join the England squad for the European Championship earlier this summer. Although he did not make the final cut, Lingard would be eyeing to make it to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Gareth Southgate has mentioned previously that regular domestic starts will be needed to be selected in the squad.
The Englishman is not exactly a starter at Old Trafford currently and is in the final 12 months of his contract. While that is the case, he has ruled out that he won’t make a decision to change clubs depending on the England selection. Lingard told reporters in an interview (h/t Daily Mail):
‘The World Cup is a long way away, but you need regular football. I was so close to going to the Euros — it’s a big factor. If you’re playing over 20, 25 games, you’re knocking on the door. I think it plays a big part in that.
‘I’m not doing any harm at the moment if I keep performing well… Of course, I want to be playing and helping the team, but I’ve not done any harm (to my England chances). With whatever minutes I get, I do my best. That’s the only thing I’m concentrating on.’

The attacking midfielder was linked with a move back to several clubs this summer, but a deal never materialized for the same, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was keen to keep him at United.
Given that he has already rejected a contract extension at the club over receiving guarantees of his game-time, it remains to be seen whether he does make a move in the near future away from the Manchester-based club.
