Transfer News: Manchester United scouts instructed to target a right-back other than Kieran Trippier in January
According to 90min.com (h/t The Express), Manchester United scouts have been instructed by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to find a right-back other than Kieran Trippier in January.
The Red Devils shelled out a lot of money to sign a centre-back and strengthen their frontline this summer, but plans are already being plotted to make further additions in January itself.
The Old Trafford outfit were targeting cover for a right-back this summer, with Kieran Trippier being actively eyed by the club. However, they failed to get a deal over the line after Diego Simeone made it clear that he wanted the Englishman to stay at the club beyond the summer.
Although United too felt content by keeping Diogo Dalot at the Manchester-based club, he has suffered for minutes this season. The ideal cover for Aaron wan-Bissaka was somebody who could do the attacking and defensive part of the game.
While Wan Bissaka is defensively astute, he does fall short in the attacking phase despite improving slightly this season. Thus, this has led to Solskjaer instructing the club’s scouts to secure a move for a right-back this season and three targets have also been named.
James Tavernier is one of the names on the list, thanks to his impressive 19 goals from the full-back position at Rangers. However, the Red Devils are also said to be targeting Tavernier’s teammate as well in Nathan Patterson, who has also impressed at the Scottish outfit.

The last player on this list is Norwich City’s Max Aarons, who has sufficient Premier League experience and is of a good age profile as well.
While all three targets are good options, it remains to be seen which full-back joins the Old Trafford outfit in the winter transfer window.
