Tony Cascarino believes Manchester United need a player like Everton ace Abdoulaye Doucoure
Speaking to talkSPORT (h/t The Express), Tony Cascarino has explained why Manchester United are ‘screaming out’ for a midfielder like Everton star Abdoulaye Doucoure.
The Red Devils added to their frontline and defence this summer but failed to bring in quality cover in the midfield. Although they do possess quite a lot of talented personnel in the center of the pitch, another box-to-box midfielder would have provided Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the opportunity to have a different approach in games.
The Red Devils faced a similar player last Sunday when they faced Everton’s Abdoulaye Doucoure. The 28-year-old dominated the midfield line and ran the hard yards all afternoon before providing the assist for the equalizer.
Former Republic of Ireland striker Tony Cascarino has now explained why Manchester United need a midfielder like the Frenchman. Cascarino told talkSPORT (h/t The Express):
“Look at United’s midfield, and you think, that’s what they’re screaming out for – a Doucoure type of midfielder. I can’t think of a better midfielder at the moment than Doucoure in the Premier League, the way he’s playing in this advanced role. He is playing brilliantly – he’s really playing well.”
Doucoure has scored 2 goals and has provided 4 assists in 8 appearances across all competitions for the Toffees this season. A similar midfielder in United’s ranks would have been useful.

However, it looks like the club are set to address that situation next summer as the Old Trafford outfit are said to be prioritizing the signing of a defensive midfielder.
Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips have been touted as potential options, although it remains to be seen if either one makes the move to Manchester.
