Transfer News: Manchester United handed blow by Real Madrid as they eye Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans
According to the latest transfer news on El Nacional (h/t Sports Mole), Manchester United could lose out on the signing of Leicester City star Youri Tielemans as Real Madrid eye a deal for him.
The Belgian midfielder has become one of the most crucial cogs in Brendan Rodgers’ machine in the last couple of years and has taken his game to a next level since his move in 2019 from Monaco. The 24-year-old was also unlucky as he almost helped his side to a Top 4 finish in the 2019/20 season.
Although he failed to do so again last season, he delivered a lightning bolt strike in the FA Cup final against Chelsea as the Midlands club picked up their first trophy since winning the Premier League in 2016.
However, United are said to have an eye on the midfielder as he will enter the final year of his current deal in 2023. There is a lot of speculation around whether the midfielder will sign an extension, and the Red Devils could capitalize if he fails to do so.
Paul Pogba’s future at the club is filled with uncertainty while Nemanja Matic’s current contract at the Old Trafford outfit will expire in 2023. Thus, with two potential vacancies in the midfield line in the next two years, Tielemans could be slotted into the ranks.
However, Real Madrid are now in the race as well and are said to have made the 24-year-old their prime midfield target. The likes of Toni Kroos, Casemiro, and Luka Modric are either already into their thirties or will touch the mark next year. Hence, the Leicester man could bring a youthful approach.
