Transfer News: Marcelo Bielsa believes Kalvin Phillips will not leave Leeds for a rival amidst Manchester United links
As per The Independent (h/t Manchester Evening News), Marcelo Bielsa believes Manchester United transfer target, Kalvin Phillips, will not leave Leeds United in a manner that disappoints the fans and the club.
The 25-year-old midfielder has made himself a household name in England after a stellar Premier League season and a starting role for England in this summer’s UEFA Euros. Such achievements don’t really go unnoticed for too long.
And Man United have been linked with a move for the defensive midfielder. But Bielsa believes that when Phillips leaves Elland Road, it would be in an amicable manner.
“I’m sure the day he leaves Leeds and the way that he does it, far from provoking disappointment – of course it will generate disappointment – but it’s going to solidify his link to the club, the people and the city.”
Phillips to join MUFC?
The Argentine manager trusts Phillips to take the right decision which keeps his relationship with Leeds intact. It seems that Bielsa realizes that there is a possibility where he could lose his star midfielder to a bigger club.
“I’m sure he would only leave if it’s guaranteed that the link to the place where he was born remains intact. He will know how to do it.”
It was only during this transfer window that Daniel James crossed the divide to join Leeds from Manchester United, showing that business can be conducted between the two teams despite their famous rivalry.
