Transfer News: Donny van de Beek ready to call it quits at Manchester United
According to The Daily Mail (h/t The Metro), Manchester United star Donny van de Beek is ready to call time on his career at Manchester United.
This comes after another anonymous start to the season that has seen him feature just twice. The Dutchman was an unused substitute against Villarreal on Wednesday and showed his frustration on the bench.
Van de Beek’s frustration is understandable given the apparent lack of trust Ole Gunnar Solskjaer shows in him. The Norwegian brought on both Fred and Nemanja Matic against the Yellow Submarines but left out the more offensive-minded Van de Beek.
According to the report, Van de Beek is a frustrated figure at Old Trafford and close to reaching breaking point. He has featured for just five minutes in United’s first six Premier League games of the season.
He is now ready to seek new pastures and could choose to leave the club in January. The 24-year-old appears open to the possibility of taking a loan deal and resurrect his flagging career.
Van de Beek was heavily linked with a loan switch to Everton in the summer. The deal however did not go through and he stayed put. Given the Toffees need for central midfielders, it is fair to say he would have gained invaluable time on the field on Merseyside.
It was in fact Solskjaer who convinced Van de Beek to stay put. The promise of being given more playtime has for now fallen on deaf ears.
The Norwegian has reneged on his word and put Van de Beek in a difficult position. With the World Cup coming up next year, the 24-year-old cannot afford to skip on regular playtime. The chances of him making the cut for the Netherlands squad is otherwise remote.

The Dutchman’s time at United can only be classified as poor with very few redeeming qualities. While he hasn’t really got fans going with his performances, attention should also be drawn to Solskjaer’s poor man management of the midfielder.
A parting of the ways would be the best way forward for all parties. Solskjaer for his part has to either come good on his word or let the player move on.
