Alex Telles: Cristiano Ronaldo was upset with Manchester United players ahead of full time against Villarreal
According to Manchester Evening News, Alex Telles has revealed that Cristiano Ronaldo was upset at the Manchester United players in our UEFA Champions League tie against Villarreal.
The Red Devils huffed and puffed their way to a stoppage-time win but were for large parts of the game, the second-best side on the pitch. As usual, it was Ronaldo who made the difference on the night for the club.
It was the 36-year-old’s second goal in two games in the Champions League this season. It is a far cry from our other attackers who are all yet to hit top gear.
According to the report, the 28-year-old Brazilian left-back revealed that Ronaldo was upset at the lack of service afforded to him on the night. The full-back, who scored United’s first on the night, assured him that it would eventually come.
“He was a little upset that we didn’t get any balls to him.”
Telles’s words proved prophetic as Ronaldo took his one clear opportunity of the match in stoppage time. It came as little surprise for the Brazilian who is very aware of the 36-year-old’s ability.
“We know his quality, we see it on a daily basis. So it only took one ball in the box and he gave us the victory. It’s a dream.”
There is little doubt that United were far from their best on the night. But Ronaldo was not any better and barely did anything of note until his winner.
It is fair to demand more and we are glad it came off in the end. However, Ronaldo will do well to make more of an impact himself when the chips are down.

The win is a massive boost for United who lost their opener against Young Boys. Dropping another two points would have been unwelcome going into the final few games. The Red Devils next face Atalanta in the UEFA Champions League in October.
