Early team news as Manchester United prepare to take on Everton at Old Trafford
According to the team news provided by the club’s official site, Manchester United are set to ring in the changes ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash against Everton.
The Red Devils fell to a shock defeat against Aston Villa in their last home game in the league last weekend. It was a night to forget for the Red Devils who also saw Bruno Fernandes miss a penalty in stoppage time.
The visit of Rafael Benitez’s men will provide them with the ideal opportunity to get their season back on track. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men trail league leaders Liverpool by one point.
According to the report, Solskjaer is expected to make a few changes to the side that defeated Villarreal on Wednesday night. First choice right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka who was suspended for the tie is expected to return to the playing XI against the Toffees.
Another full-back who could return is Luke Shaw. The English international is suffering from illness and it remains to be seen if he will make the cut in time for Sunday. He was also included in Gareth Southgate’s Three Lions squad announced yesterday. This can only mean that his issue is far from serious.
Solskjaer will also be without his captain Harry Maguire. The centre-back received a calf injury against Aston Villa and has been ruled out for the next few weeks. Summer signing Raphael Varane should continue at the back alongside Victor Lindelof.
Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to lead the line again with Bruno Fernandes, Jadon Sancho and Mason Greenwood for support. Solskjaer has good strength in depth up front and can also call upon Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard.
Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo are closer to returning but will not make it in time for Everton’s visit. It remains to be seen if Donny van de Beek will also be given a look in.
