Youri Tielemans tipped to leave Leicester City amidst interest from Manchester United
According to The Athletic (h/t Express), Manchester United have received a boost in the pursuit of Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans as he is unlikely to sign a contract extension.
The Foxes signed the midfielder in January 2019 from Monaco and the Belgian has gone to become a mainstay in the first-team under Brendan Rodgers.
Last season, the midfielder continued his good performances but became an even more crucial part as he featured in over 50 games for the club and contributed to 15 goals. While Leicester did miss out on Champions League football on the last day of the Premier League, they did win the FA Cup, thanks to a beautiful long-range goal by the 24-year-old.
Thus, his contributions have been key to the Foxes, however, it does not look like he might be staying there for too long. According to the Athletic (h/t Express), the Belgian wants to prove himself at the highest level of the game and is unlikely to sign an extension on his current deal, which ends in 2023.
Given that the Foxes might not finish in the Top 4 in the next two seasons, Manchester United would be hoping to capitalise on this situation and get a deal over the line for the midfielder.
The Red Devils are unsure whether Paul Pogba will be staying at the club next season as he is yet to agree a new contract. Additionally, Nemanja Matic will enter the final year of his deal next season. Thus, getting in a seasoned Premier League midfielder like Tielemans would be a clever move.

However, the Manchester-based club will have to thwart the likes of Real Madrid and Barcelona, as the Spanish giants are also said to be in contention for the 24-year-old’s signature. Hence, with two other top clubs interested in the player, it remains to be seen whether Solskjaer and co. can lure the Belgian to Old Trafford.
