Transfer News: Borussia Dortmund considering a move for Anthony Martial as Erling Haaland replacement
According to transfer news from 90min (h/t TEAMtalk), Borussia Dortmund are pondering over a move for Anthony Martial as a replacement for Erling Haaland, who is a Manchester United target himself.
The Red Devils are prioritizing a deal for the Norwegian striker next summer but could face competition from PSG, Manchester City, and Real Madrid for his signature. It would be a dream scenario for United fans if Martial was replaced by Haaland at Old Trafford.
The club is apparently looking for a £36million fee for Martial, which is around the same amount they paid for Martial to AS Monaco all those years back. But for the potential swap to happen, Dortmund would have to sign Martial.
The report mentions that the German giants also have Chelsea’s Timo Werner and Everton’s Richarlison on their shortlist.
Martial to BVB?
For United, their attacking options seem good for now. But with Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo not getting any younger, the time to start planning for the future is now. Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood are good but the English duo has featured on the wings to good effect.
In Haaland, the Red Devils will have a no-nonsense number 9 who is a proven goal-scorer. He has a release clause that activates next year and John Murtough should look to broker a deal as soon as possible.
Allowing such a striker to join rivals like Manchester City will be a double blow for Man United fans. Even if they can’t get in Haaland, getting decent money for Martial would also be a decent scenario.
