Manchester United ramp up security features at Carrington to discourage protestors
According to The Mirror, Manchester United have amplified the security features at the club’s Carrington training ground to deter protestors.
This comes after huge protests outside Carrington and Old Trafford in recent months against the Glazers ownership of the club. While the loud voices have since died down, the club does not appear to be ready to take any chances.
A new spoked steel gate has been added to Carrington’s entrance, making entry all the more difficult for unauthorized personnel.
The heavy-duty gate presents a formidable barrier should fans again attempt to force their way into the facility. The training ground has seen investment in recent weeks and it would appear security too has benefitted from the overhaul.
The incidents where the fans broke in occurred in April after United’s participation in the breakaway European Super League was announced. A group of 20 fans got past the entrance armed with banners and made their way to the reception of the training complex and to the first-team training area. They, however, refrained from entering any buildings.
In the end, it took Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Michael Carrick, Darren Fletcher and Nemanja Matic to pacify them and send them on their way. Shortly after that, fans invaded the Old Trafford pitch, postponing our clash against Liverpool. The Merseysiders would eventually go on to win the rearranged fixture 4-2.
Joel Glazer recently told fans that the club’s facilities would be improved. While that has proven to be true to varying extents, he also appears to have made security a priority.

United have invested both in the squad and the club infrastructure this summer. Whether this is enough to pacify fans remains to be seen. If anything, the movement against the Americans has lost steam and it will take some reviving if revisited in the future.
