Transfer News: Manchester United have made contact with Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele
According to ElNacional (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United have already made contact with Barcelona attacker Ousmane Dembele.
The 24-year-old joined Barcelona in a club-record deal worth a massive €145million (including add-ons) in the summer of 2017. In his last four seasons at the club, Dembele has only managed to rack up 118 appearances across all competitions and has scored a meagre 30 goals and provided a further 21 assists.
However, this was far from the player that had racked up 32 goal involvements in just 50 appearances at Borussia Dortmund as a teenager. Thus, this is why United have been said to have taken Barcelona by ‘surprise’ by trying to lure the French international to Old Trafford.
The Red Devils, who possessed the likes of Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, and Jesse Lingard last season, added handsomely to the squad over the summer with the acquisitions of Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho.
However, despite the additions, United could need another forward. This is because the club are ready to part ways with Anthony Martial while Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard could both be out of contract next summer. Additionally, Ronaldo will also turn 37 at the start of the year.
Thus, a player like Ousmane Dembele could certainly add quality to United’s ranks while also provide a youthful approach. The Manchester-based club’s pursuit is also boosted by the fact that the 24-year-old could be available on a free transfer next summer.

However, Barcelona are said to be negotiating an extension for the French international, while they have also met with his agent Moussa Sissoko to do the same, according to El Partidazo de COPE (h/t Sport Witness).
But if the Blaugrana fail to agree on an extension by January, United could swoop in and complete a pre-contract agreement with the winger over a potential summer move. Hence, United would be hoping they can get a deal over the line for Dembele if an opportunity presents itself.
