Transfer News: Barcelona turned down bid from Manchester United for Ansu Fati
According to transfer news from Spanish outlet AS (h/t Sport Witness), Barcelona rejected a massive £85million bid from Manchester United for their wonderkid, Ansu Fati.
The Spanish winger had a breakthrough season at Camp Nou in 2019/20 as he racked up 7 goals in 24 La Liga appearances. That seemed to have attracted United’s interest, who submitted a big offer for him.
This was around the time when the Red Devils were also trying to sign Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund. As it turned out, the Catalan giants rejected the bid and Fati still pies his trade with Barcelona.
Unfortunately, the 18-year-old attacker suffered a serious injury early in the 2020/21 that has sidelined him since ten months. In that time, Man United have signed Sancho from the Black and Yellow for a £73million fee this summer.
No regrets
Fati is also in the last year of his contract at Camp Nou. If he doesn’t agree to new terms, foreign clubs can negotiate terms over a summer transfer with him from January 2022.
However, Barca, who are reeling from a financial crisis, are confident that they can offer acceptable terms to the teenager. This is one transfer saga that United fans can now afford to ignore.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, before Sancho, saw Amad Diallo join the Old Trafford outfit from Atalanta earlier this year. Apart from that, the club also boasts of two brilliant young forwards in Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford.

Ansu Fati could well be the next big thing. But as it stands, Manchester United aren’t really in urgent need of signing another young winger with the likes of Greenwood, Sancho, Rashford, Diallo, and Facundo Pellistri already in their squad.
