Dimitar Berbatov criticizes those who have lost faith in Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

According to Betfair (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United hero Dimitar Berbatov has given his backing to Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The Norwegian has come under fire following his baffling decision-making against Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday. The Red Devils fell 2-1 on the night in what was a tremendous upset.

It is fair to say that the Norwegian’s record in Europe’s is not the best. Berbatov, however, believes Solskjaer’s job is not under threat.

Berbatov urges Solskjaer to bring in another right-back

Berbatov believes statistics don’t always paint the bigger picture.

“Manchester United hero Dimitar Berbatov has given his backing to Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Is Solskjaer’s job at risk after the defeat in Switzerland? Come on, you can’t be serious. United have played four games in the Premier League and won three of them. One defeat in the Champions League does not put Ole’s job in jeopardy.”

One statistic that does, however, showcase the lack of success is the number of trophies the Norwegian has won at United as a manager. The Red Devils currently sit top of the Premier League. Hopefully, the loss in the Champions League is more of a blip than a trend.

Berbatov has appraised his belief in United’s strength in depth and states that a verdict should be made at the end of the group stages, not one game. This rings true given what happened last season.

The Red Devils won their first two games but still missed out on qualifying for the last 16. Hopefully we experience the opposite this time around.

“United have a strong squad, have made excellent signings who are bedding in, and we should judge them at the end of the group stage, not after one match.”

United also share their Champions League group with Villarreal and Atalanta. The Red Devils have the best team on paper and should be expected to qualify for the knockout rounds this time around.
