Transfer News: Barcelona want to sign Manchester United star Paul Pogba

According to Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Sports Witness), Barcelona ‘dream of signing’ Manchester United star Paul Pogba on a free transfer next summer if he doesn’t sign a new contract at Old Trafford.

Pogba’s contract expires in 2022 and he has been linked with a move away from the club. Barcelona could be interested in signing the French midfielder among other top European clubs like Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.

There have been mixed signals with Pogba’s situation at Old Trafford. He is still keeping his options open as he comes towards the end of his contract and understandably, there isn’t a shortage of interest in him.

The Catalans may not be able to afford the kind of wages that other clubs may be offered to the star midfielder. Despite these hurdles, Barcelona would be willing to make him one of the biggest stars of their team.

Should United keep Pogba?

The French international was for long a big-name player surrounded by individuals that would not have matched his stature at Old Trafford. But in the last year and a half, this has changed to a large extent.

The Red Devils have signed Bruno Fernandes, Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho, and Cristiano Ronaldo to lay out a team filled with top quality players. Pogba would also have taken note of that.

Pogba to leave United in the near future?

Man United are one of the biggest sporting institutions right now and it’s not like Pogba is in a team that is letting him down. The Red Devils are failing to cross the important hurdles under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

With a strengthened team this season, United would hope that Pogba is one of the stars that leads them to their first trophy under Solskjaer. Once that happens, a potential contract renewal would then be the icing on the cake. But with a long way to go until the end of this campaign, United fans may have to wait a while to truly discover Pogba’s fate at Old Trafford.
