Sir Alex Ferguson, Ed Woodward and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hold Manchester United lunchtime meeting
According to The Mirror, Sir Alex Ferguson, Ed Woodward and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer were all seen taking part in a Manchester United lunchtime meeting on Thursday.
The trio was seen at a meeting involving the club’s management and board members. It took place at the Ivy in Spinningfields, Manchester. Others in attendance included United technical director Darren Fletcher, former chief executive David Gill and club director, Mike Edelson.
The gathering of the powerbrokers comes days before what could potentially be Cristiano Ronaldo’s second debut for the club. The 36-year-old’s capture capped off a sensational summer that also saw the club land Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane among others.
The meeting could be one of the last in which Ed Woodward will take part as the club’s executive vice-chairman. He is already set to step down from his role before the end of 2021. Richard Arnold will replace him.
Despite quitting management in 2013, Sir Alex retains considerable influence. He played a key role in convincing Ronaldo to return to Old Trafford from Juventus in the summer transfer window.
The venue appears to be a favourite one for the club. The Red Devils squad held a team-bonding evening at the same venue last month. It appears to have gone off well given that we smacked Leeds United in our season opener just days later.
Whether it was just a casual meeting of the policymakers of the club or if there is something stirring behind the scenes remains to be seen. We, for one, will not mind another surprise in the same inking as Ronaldo.
