Transfer News: Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani looks set to join Boca Juniors next summer
According to transfer news from Spanish outlet Todofichajes (h/t Yardbarker), Manchester United star Edinson Cavani has reportedly agreed to join Boca Juniors next summer.
The Argentine striker had a big role to play in United’s second-place finish in both the Premier League and the UEFA Europa League last season, netting 17 goals in all competitions.
But his time at the club may well be coming to an end soon. Cavani’s contract is already set to expire in the summer of 2022, and the report states that he will move closer to his native land by agreeing to join Boca Juniors.
The Uruguayan international may also find starts harder to come by this season. Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial, and now, Anthony Elanga, are all strikers that can take up that number 9 position if called upon.
Cavani off to Boca Juniors?
On top of that, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side saw Cristiano Ronaldo return to Old Trafford after 12 years. And one thing is for certain, the former Juventus and Real Madrid hitman will not come to Manchester to warm the benches.
Amidst this, a move to South America may well be what Cavani needs to ensure a respectable and fitting end to his long and illustrious career, during which he has succeeded at teams like Napoli and Paris Saint-Germain.
But for now, he has a job at hand. The Red Devils are still without a Premier League trophy in eight years and Solskjaer hasn’t tasted any success as a manager at Man United.

Cavani would hope that he can help the club, in whatever limited capacity, in winning at least one trophy this season. Once that is done, a potential move to his native continent may well be all the more sweet.
