Manchester United News: Cristiano Ronaldo thinks Lionel Messi is the best player he played against
Writing for his column on the Daily Mail (h/t Express), Piers Morgan revealed details of his private conversation with Manchester United icon, Cristiano Ronaldo, and revealed his verdict on Lionel Messi.
According to Morgan, the Portuguese superstar stated that Messi is the greatest footballer that he has played against. Here is what the British journalist had to write regarding this:
“Who’s the greatest footballer you’ve ever played against?’ I asked Cristiano Ronaldo. It was time for the big question. ‘Messi,’ he replied, immediately and emphatically. ’Really?’ I said, surprised that he would name his biggest rival. ’For sure. He is the best I’ve played against.’ Then he grinned.”
Messi and Ronaldo enjoyed one of the greatest sporting rivalries during their time together in La Liga. Ronaldo was Real Madrid’s talisman while Messi was the engine that kept Barcelona at the pinnacle of the sport.
Ronaldo vs Messi lives on
Both of them are now at different clubs, but their rivalries shall not diminish. Ronaldo, after his stint at Juventus, is back at Manchester United. Messi, on the other hand, is now a Paris Saint-Germain player.
But does Ronaldo think that Messi is better than him? As per Piers Morgan, that is not the case.
The British broadcaster wrote in his column that Ronaldo thought he was asking him the wrong question. The former Juventus star wanted Morgan to ask who he thinks is the greatest player in the world is.
“‘You should just ask me who is the greatest player…‘I think I know the answer,’ I replied, laughing. Ronaldo winked and we clinked glasses. He believes he’s the best to ever play the game. And I agree with him.”
