Manchester United seeking a new midfielder and a striker in the summer of 2022
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United will target a new midfielder and a striker in the 2022 summer transfer window.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saw three key first-team players walk into Old Trafford this time around. Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo are players that one usually picks for a fantasy team. For United fans, that dream is now a reality.
The Red Devils roster now boasts of genuine strength in depth as we enter the 2021/22 season. Solskjaer has an abundance of match-winners who he can call upon when needed.
Despite the key additions, the club cannot afford to slack off in the coming windows. With plans being made well in advance, they appear to be ready to keep the good times rolling.
West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice is at the top of United’s wanted list. With Fred and Scott McTominay lacking dynamism in midfield, the Englishman’s potential arrival could be a game-changer.
Paul Pogba too faces an uncertain future at the club given his contract situation while Donny van de Beek’s fate appears to be both mismanaged and tragic. Bringing in Rice could be a priority rather than a luxury in a year’s time.
With Edinson Cavani not getting any younger and his contract expiring next summer, a striker is another priority. Mason Greenwood has shown the ability to lead the line well this season.
Whether a good run of form will convince United to keep faith in the youngster remains to be seen. With Erling Haaland available on the cheap next summer, it will be interesting to see if United will make a punt to land him. After all talents such as his come all too rarely.
