Transfer News: West Ham eyeing deadline day swoop for Manchester United ace Jesse Lingard
According to news from the Daily Mirror (h/t The Express), West Ham United are hoping to make a ‘last ditch’ move for Manchester United ace Jesse Lingard on deadline day.
The East London club are eyeing a deadline day deal for the 28-year-old, however, they are not willing to meet the Old Trafford outfit’s £30million asking price.
The Hammers want to sign the Englishman on a cut-price fee as he only has a year left on his current contract, and they could sign a pre-contract with him after 4 months, in January.
Solskjaer claimed a month ago that the winger was willing to fight for a place in the squad while Lingard was also brought off the bench to influence the game against Southampton last weekend.
The existing attacking lot at the club, namely Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial, and Mason Greenwood have, however, already made it hard for the Englishman to make it into the starting lineup. Moreover, the signing of club legend Cristiano Ronaldo could mean that the 28-year-old might not receive consistent game-time at the club.
West Ham, in turn, are ready to offer the player ‘regular’ football, something they promised him in January as well when Lingard completed a loan move to the club for the second half of last season.
The 28-year-old went on to make 16 league appearances for the club while he also scored 9 goals and provided 5 assists in the process. The winger helped the Hammers secure a place in Europe, courtesy of which they need a deeper squad this year.
