Transfer News: Manchester United eyeing deadline day move for Ruben Neves
According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri (h/t Express), Manchester United are eyeing a deadline day move for Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves.
The 24-year-old, who joined the Molineux outfit in 2017, has been a great asset for the club for nearly half a decade, but it could be time for the Portuguese to make the switch to Manchester.
Although the Red Devils already possess the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay, Fred, and Donny van de Beek in their ranks, a midfielder like Neves would add a lot of quality to the side.
However, a deal in the dying embers could be complicated according to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano. He talked about the player’s situation and United’s plans of signing him on his ‘Here We Go’ podcast (h/t Express):
“The only option for Manchester United in midfield is Ruben Neves, but as of now they have not reached an agreement with Wolves – there is nothing imminent. Let’s see if Manchester United will decide for something crazy in the final hours. My feeling is, after signing Ronaldo, [United] are happy with this [the business they’ve done].”
Wolves manager Bruno Lage also recently admitted that he is happy with Neves but insisted that ‘every player has a price’. With his words, the Wolves’ boss indicated that the 24-year-old midfielder may be made available for a transfer if the right bid arrives, although, with so little time left, a move might be difficult.

Although United have had a terrific summer by signing the likes of Jadon Sancho, Raphael Varane, and club legend Cristiano Ronaldo, it remains to be seen whether they will orchestrate a last-minute move for Ruben Neves.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will need to compete strongly all fronts this year, especially after the recruitment that the club has done. And, if they are able to sign Neves before the end of deadline day, the Red Devils will be a fearless prospect this season.
