Jose Mourinho blocked Manchester United ace Donny van de Beek’s move to AS Roma this summer
According to Laroma.it (h/t Mirror), Manchester United ace Donny van de Beek was a possible option for AS Roma this summer, but club manager Jose Mourinho blocked the move.
The former United manager, who took over the reins at Roma this summer, passed up the opportunity of signing van de Beek from the Old Trafford outfit as the Portuguese felt that the 24-year-old did not ‘fit the profile’ of the kind of the player they needed.
There were said to be talks between Roma general manager Tiago Pinto and Van de Beek’s representatives about the possibility of a season-long loan deal as the Dutchman has suffered for game-time at the Manchester-based club.
The 24-year-old, who signed for the Red Devils from AFC Ajax last summer, failed to get considerable minutes under his belt and managed to start only four Premier League games in his debut season.
The Old Trafford outfit, who already possess the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, Fred, Nemanja Matic in their ranks, have found it hard to provide the Dutchman with minutes this season as well.
Although it is still early days in the new season, van de Beek has remained an unused substitute in all three Premier League games. Pogba and Fernandes have gotten off to a great start this campaign, and if the duo manages to keep up this form, it could become hard for the 24-year-old to get consistent game-time again this year.
