Ole Gunnar Solskjaer full of praise for Raphael Varane on his Manchester United debut vs Wolves
Speaking on BBC MOTD2 (h/t Manchester Evening News) after Manchester United beat Wolverhampton Wanderers, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave a positive assessment of Raphael Varane on his debut for the club.
The Frenchman was signed from Real Madrid earlier this summer and fans were eagerly waiting to see him in action especially after his magnanimous unveiling in front of a full Old Trafford crowd on gameweek 1.
And that moment finally came today as he started alongside Harry Maguire in the centre of the defence. The 28-year-old was solid, and apart from being beaten by Roman Saiss for a dangerous header, made no real mistakes.
In fact, he also had a part to play for Mason Greenwood’s goal that eventually won United the game 10 minutes from time. After the game, the Norwegian manager was full of praise for the £41million signing.
OGS impressed by Varane
“He was class. Composed, experienced, good on the ball, in the air. He’s got everything as a centre-back so I’m delighted with his performance.”
His debut was perhaps what Jadon Sancho would have also wanted for himself. But unfortunately for the Englishman, it was a forgetful game down the left-hand side.
Mason Greenwood, David de Gea, and Raphael Varane were the standout performers from a game that gave fans very little to cheer about. But they won’t care how the win came as long as they ended up with the three points.
