Pep Guardiola congratulates Manchester United for re-signing Cristiano Ronaldo

According to BT Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has congratulated both Manchester United and Cristiano Ronaldo upon their reunion.

The 36-year-old looked to be on his way to the Etihad before the Red Devils swooped in late to sign him instead. Having already landed Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, signing Ronaldo has secured United a trifecta of world-class talents.

While the Portuguese superstar will only make his s second debut after the international break, optimism is currently running high at the Theatre of Dreams.

Ronaldo is back where it all began.

Guardiola refused to admit that he was frustrated at being unable to bring in a replacement for Sergio Aguero. However, it is fair to say that falling short for Ronaldo and Harry Kane in the same week is less than pleasant.

“We aren’t frustrated, it’s good that a player like Cristiano Ronaldo is back in England for the Premier League. It’s good news.”

City now looks set to go into the season with Gabriel Jesus as their ace striker. Spanish striker Ferran Torres will provide depth. While it does not say much, the City attack came into life earlier today demolishing a poor Arsenal side 5-0. Perhaps Guardiola does not need to worry much, at least not until we face them anyway.

A number of United legends played a role in ensuring Ronaldo ended up at Old Trafford. Former manager Sir Alex Ferguson was influential behind the scenes while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer personally advocated for his return. Rio Ferdinand also stepped up to help ensure the deal gets over the line.
