Edinson Cavani set to stay at Man United during international break

Edinson Cavani will not leave Manchester United for international duty in the next month

According to TEAM Talk, Edinson Cavani will remain at Manchester United during the international break as Uruguay have cancelled his call-up to the national team.

Earlier this month, there was a unanimous statement by all the clubs in the Premier League stating that they would not allow those players to leave on international duty who will be travelling to ‘red list’ countries as it would leave them out of contention for the games after the international break.

As per the UK guidelines, people who come in from ‘red list’ countries face an isolation period in Government approved- hotels for nearly 10 days.

Uruguay is currently on the ‘red list’, thus, it would mean that every player who returns from there would miss at least one game week, if not two.

From the perspective of the Old Trafford outfit, they would be facing the prospect of losing Edinson Cavani for nearly 3 matches, including a Champions League clash against Young Boys, which is scheduled on the 14th of September. The other two games are against 17th placed Newcastle United and 2nd place West Ham United.

The latter two are key clashes as every single point will count from now on if the Red Devils hope to clinch silverware at the end of the season.

Thus, Cavani will remain unavailable for Uruguay for their World Cup qualifiers against Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador. The 34-year-old signed a contract extension of 1 year with the Manchester-based club earlier this year but is yet to feature in a United jersey.

Although the Red Devils have signed club legend Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus, they will need all the help they can get in the centre-forward department – something the Uruguayan can certainly provide.
