Transfer News: Diogo Dalot nears loan move from Manchester United to Borussia Dortmund
According to German outlet Bild (h/t Sport Witness), Borussia Dortmund and Manchester United are close to agreeing on a deal for Diogo Dalot this summer.
The report mentions that the deal would be an initial loan move, with the Bundesliga side preferring an option to buy him permanently at the end of the spell. The two teams are believed to be in ‘intensive negotiations’.
While the deal is ‘almost agreed’ between the two sides, a report by Sky Deutschland (h/t Sport Witness) earlier this weekend stated that United wanted to sign someone in the right-back area before selling Dalot.
It remains to be seen how this deal pans out at the end. United are looking for a right-back and Kieran Trippier is one name that has popped up constantly throughout this transfer window.
Deutsch dilemma for Dalot
But with just a couple of days left until the transfer deadline, the Red Devils would be wise to offload fringe players like Dalot. The Portuguese full-back is pretty versatile but it hasn’t worked out for him at Old Trafford.
Despite Ole Gunnar Solskjaer needing a natural option down the right-hand side, Dalot was loaned out to AC Milan last season. The Norwegian evidently doesn’t see the 22-year-old as a backup for Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Trippier’s set pieces and passing abilities offer the club a potent dynamic when in possession. However, it seems like the club might have to settle for missing out on him.

There doesn’t seem to be any progress regarding a deal with Atletico Madrid and any deal for him would now be pretty last minute considering how close we are to 31st August. As for Dalot, a move to the Bundesliga might just be what he needs to reignite his career.
