Transfer News: Everton, West Ham plot offers for Manchester United ace Jesse Lingard
According to transfer news from Sunday Mirror (h/t The Boot Room), Everton and West Ham United could sign Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard before deadline day.
The Englishman was on loan at the Hammers earlier this year and had a scintillating spell. The stint even led to him being considered by Gareth Southgate for the England squad going to the 2020 UEFA Euros.
West Ham wanted to sign Lingard earlier this window but United demanded a £25million fee back then. With Cristiano Ronaldo’s arrival at Old Trafford, they hope that a £15million offer would be enough to sign the 28-year-old.
The report adds that Everton are also preparing a possible offer for Lingard. It makes sense with the uncertainty surrounding the future of James Rodriguez and the absence of Gylfi Sigurdsson from first-team football recently.
Lingard on his way out?
Selling the Man United academy graduate makes sense. If the Hammers do go through with their offer, Ed Woodward and John Murtough should not think twice before accepting it.
There is barely any space for Lingard under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer right now. Bruno Fernandes has the number 10 position locked down and Donny van de Beek is already struggling for starts in that position.
Juan Mata still remains at the club, while United probably have too many wingers right now – another position where Lingard can play. In light of this, selling him permanently for a considerable transfer fee seems like the way to go.

Lingard never really found favour under the Norwegian and his loan spell earlier this year said everything about Ole’s placement of Lingard in his pecking order. It seems like the time has come for the duo to part ways for the best.
