Transfer News: Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer refuses to rule out Cristiano Ronaldo move

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has refused to rule out a sensational late swoop for club legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 36-year-old looks set to leave Juventus this summer and a return to Manchester is on the horizon. Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are interested in his services but United are not ready to throw in the level yet.

Having landed Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane, United have already had a good summer. Bringing Ronaldo back home would be the coup de grace. Whether it does indeed come to pass remains to be seen.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer set to bring Ronaldo back to Manchester United?

Solskajer admits that he did not believe Ronaldo would leave Juventus this summer. However, now that it is coming to pass, United are firmly in the fray for his signature.

United superstar Bruno Fernandes also appears to be making an effort to get to his international teammate. Solskjaer states in no uncertain terms that Ronaldo is well aware of having a place at United should he seek out a change.

“We’ve always had good communication. I know Bruno [Fernandes]’s been talking to him as well and he knows what we feel about him. And if he was ever gonna move away from Juventus he knows we’re here.”

Perhaps to live down expectations to not to jinx it, Solskjaer refused to be drawn out more regarding a player who represents another club. The Norwegian may however have already shown his hand.

“So let’s see what happens with Cristiano, he’s such a legend of this club.”

Ronaldo spent six years at Old Trafford, carving out a niche for himself under Sir Alex Ferguson. He went from being a prospect to a truly world-class player and even won the Balon d’Or during his time at the Theatre of Dreams. Returning to the club where he first made his name would bring the circle to a proper close.

Securing Ronaldo would be a big move both on and off the field. The veteran still has a couple of seasons left in him while fans would also certainly welcome his return. At the very least, it will keep him away from the Etihad which would be an indelible blot on his legacy at Old Trafford.
