Trippier News: Kieran Trippier to choose Manchester United over Arsenal
According to Eurosport (h/t The Metro), Atletico Madrid and England star Kieran Trippier would snub a move to Arsenal in order to move to Manchester United instead.
The Gunners are keen on the former Tottenham Hotspur ace and could step up their interest in the coming days. Trippier, however, does not seem too keen to move to the Emirates.
As things stand, both clubs were put off by Atletico’s £34million asking price. The Gunners however appear to retain hope that it could be brought down before the window closes at the end of the month.
Trippier was one of Diego Simeone’s top stars last season and was also named in the La Liga team of the year. The 30-year-old is an experienced player and has experience of the Premier League with not just Spurs but also Burnley.
Arsenal are desperate to sign a right-back to replace Hector Bellerin. They are looking at ways to structure a bid in order to convince Atletico to sell.
The Red Devils have been informed of the player’s intent and could be encouraged to return with an offer of their own. Adding Trippier to our squad would wrap up what has been an excellent summer in terms of recruitment.
United made an initial bid of £10m for Trippier earlier in the summer that was promptly knocked back by the Spanish champions. Whether we have the ability in us to land him remains to be seen.
In Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the Red Devils have one of the best defensive full-backs in the league. He, however, is found lacking at times while going forward. Adding Trippier to the ranks will give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer more options to choose from, especially when his team is in possession.
