“Ain’t going to play”- Man United legend believes Donny van de Beek’s fate at the club is decided

Erik ten Hag deems former Ajax star Donny van de Beek 'surplus to requirements' at Manchester United.

Rio Ferdinand does not believe that Donny van de Beek will have a role to play at Manchester United

According to a piece done by Rio Ferdinand on FIVE YouTube channel (h/t Sport Review), Donny van de Beek is not going to feature often for Manchester United this season.

The Dutchman, who completed a move from Ajax last summer, has struggled for game-time at the club as the midfielder has racked up less than 1500 minutes last season.

Moreover, given that the Red Devils already possess the likes of Nemanja Matic, Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay, Fred, and Paul Pogba in their ranks, getting into the team is only going to be harder.

Additionally, the club have also been linked with the likes of Saul Niguez, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Ruben Neves, and several other midfielders this summer. If one of them does end up joining the club this summer, it could put the 24-year-old further down the pecking order.

Club legend Rio Ferdinand spoke about the player’s situation in a little more detail on his FIVE YouTube channel (h/t Sport Review), saying:

“Donny van de Beek, he’s not going to get a chance in this team, is he? £40m and he ain’t going to play.

“Anyone coming in under Ole is an Ole signing. You give him the credit for the players who come in and do well, and you’ve got to take [criticism]. Van De Beek, you don’t know if he’s wrong or right because he doesn’t get the opportunity. That’s the problem.”

The Dutchman was linked with a move away from the club, however, his agent, Guido Albers, has confirmed that the player is ‘happy’ and that he would be given a ‘role’ at the club this season.

Until now, Van de Beek has been an unused substitute against both Leeds United and Southampton. Thus, it remains to be seen whether the 24-year-old fits into Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans this season.
