Brandon Williams is nearing a loan move away from Manchester United
According to Sky Sports (h/t The Sun), Manchester United are set to send Brandon Williams out on loan this summer to newly-promoted Norwich City.
Williams, who has featured primarily as a backup to Luke Shaw at left-back fell down the pecking order last season after the club signed Alex Telles. Thus, the 20-year-old was then providing cover to Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the right-back role but managed only five starts all season.
All in all, the Englishman made 14 first-team appearances in all competitions last season and garnered only one assist in that period. Additionally, given that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been impressed with Diogo Dalot this pre-season, the Portuguese might now act as the backup to Wan-Bissaka.
This would certainly limit Williams’ game-time further this season, despite featuring in all four matches of United’s pre-season campaign. Thus, in a bid to gain more game-time on a consistent basis, the 20-year-old would favour a loan move, with Norwich City closing in on signing the player.
While this is not a huge problem for Manchester United, it would serve as a temporary issue given that their current left-back in Luke Shaw would not have a backup option behind him.
Alex Telles is out with an injury until September, while Axel Tuanzebe, who has featured in the left-back role previously for the Red Devils, also completed a loan move to Aston Villa earlier this summer.

Although Diogo Dalot can play in that position, he would be the sole backup to both full-backs until the end of this month. However, this would be a good move for Williams, who could gain some considerable minutes under his belt and the experience of playing in a Premier League team week in and week out.
