Transfer News: Paul Pogba eyes Manchester United exit with Real Madrid in sight
According to Sky Sports via Spanish outlet Diario AS, Paul Pogba has his sights set on a free transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid next summer.
The French midfielder is on a contract that expires in the summer of 2022. And he wants to exhaust that deal in order to seal a move to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Pogba is undoubtedly a major part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team. His performance against Leeds United on the opening day of the Premier League showed his worth to the team as he bagged four assists.
Losing him on a free transfer would be a nightmare scenario for the Red Devils, especially considering the then-world record £89million they paid to Juventus in the summer of 2016.
Pogba to Madrid?
Madrid aren’t the Galacticos anymore that we were accustomed to during the last decade. Bringing in Raphael Varane at Old Trafford is a statement signing that indicates United is still a top destination for many world-class players.
It would hence be a letdown for the fans and the club to see someone like Pogba ditch the Red Devils for Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Madrid have, however, chased Pogba for a while now.
The report adds that it was Zinedine Zidane’s wish to have the 28-year-old midfielder at the club when he was the manager at Madrid. However, that could not be fulfilled due to United’s exorbitant demands for the player.

With the addition of Varane and Jadon Sancho, Ed Woodward and John Murtough have given the FIFA 2018 World Cup-winning midfielder added quality in the starting XI that can match some of the best squads in world football. There’s barely anymore that United can do to make him stay.
