Solskjaer rules out Raphael Varane making his Manchester United debut against Leeds United

According to MEN (h/t Sports Mole), Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed that Raphael Varane will not make his debut for the club on Saturday against Leeds United.

The Red Devils take on Marcelo Bielsa’s side this weekend in the blockbuster clash at Old Trafford. Given the rivalry between both sides, it promises to be a competitive game. With no quarter given, United players will at the very least be given a reality check that could aid them well over the course of the season.

While Jadon Sancho could feature against Leeds, one man who will not be in the squad is Varane. While a deal for him has already been agreed upon, it is yet to be made official.

Sancho could feature against Leeds United

With him yet to be registered as a United player, the game against Leeds has come too soon for Varane. For now, he will have to watch on from the sidelines.

The player for his part was eager to begin training and to take to the field last Wednesday itself. He had his sights set on our opening fixture and is keen to make his mark at the club. While he will definitely improve our defence, fans will have to be patient before watching him in action. (h/t MEN)

“He hasn’t trained with us. Things take time. Not 100% done yet. He won’t be involved because he has not trained with us.”

Solskjaer confirmed that the decision to not play Varane is because he is yet to train with the squad yet. It will take him a while to get used to the system deployed by the Norwegian and his assistants.

The 28-year-old had to quarantine upon his arrival in England but has already undergone his medical and penned personal terms with United. It is now only a matter of time before the deal is made official.

“The big hold up was the quarantine and the isolation – it will be done soon.”

United’s second game of the season is against Wolverhampton Wanderers on 29th April. There is every chance that the Frenchman could be included in the squad that travels to the Molineux. It remains to be seen if there are any further hold-ups.
