Transfer News: Manchester United target Ilaix Moriba set to run down Barcelona contract
According to transfer news from Mundo Deportivo (h/t Inside Futbol, 18-year-old Barcelona ace Ilaix Moriba is set to run down his Barcelona contract amidst interest from Manchester United.
Moriba is into the final year of his contract at the Nou Camp and will be eligible to leave on a free transfer next summer. The starlet has not signed a new contract yet, courtesy of which the Catalonia-based side have dropped the player from the senior team, and the player is now part of Barcelona’s B side.
The youngster’s situation at Barcelona has seen him attract interest from several clubs in Europe this summer, including English giants Chelsea and Manchester United and German outfit RB Leipzig, who are back in the market for the player this summer after failing to sign the player last year.
Moriba is ready to run his contract down this season, despite knowing what might happen, according to Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo (h/t Inside Futbol). Although Moriba did start 14 La Liga games last season, he is aware that his first-team football could be completely cut off if he does not pen a new deal at the Nou Camp.
United have been keeping tabs on the player as they are eager to sign midfield reinforcements this summer. The Red Devils, who are facing the prospect of losing Paul Pogba on a free transfer next summer, could make a smart move by signing Moriba, who could act as a long-term replacement for the Frenchman.
