Transfer News: Manchester United eye Leon Goretzka as an alternative for Eduardo Camavinga
According to the Express, Manchester United could make a move for Leon Goretzka if they fail to land Rennes wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga.
The Red Devils have added Jadon Sancho to their ranks and are also on the verge of bringing in Raphael Varane. That does not, however, mean that the club is done with their transfer dealings. One name that keeps popping up is that of Camavinga.
The 18-year-old is already a full French international and is currently in the final year of his deal at Rennes. As things stand, he looks set to stay on despite there being no resolution yet regarding his future. Whether this boosts United’s chances of landing him on a free next year remains to be seen.
The Red Devils are, however, not putting all their eggs in one basket and could make a move for German star Leon Goretzka, claims the Express. The Bayern Munich ace is also in a similar situation and has a year left on his current deal at the Allianz Arena.
Manchester United have been keen on signing a central midfielder after Paul Pogba refused a contract extension at the club. The 28-year-old is also in the final year of his contract. Clearly, there is no dearth of players set to tip off the merry-go-round of transfers of soon to be free agents.
While Camavinga is certainly a very talented young player, Goretzka is no slouch. The German international is a proven star at the top level.
He has recently bulked up and looks capable of adapting to the English game should it come to that. Either way, the Red Devils would be landing themselves a top player capable of making the position their own for years to come.

Goretzka is seeking a significant pay rise that will net him €20m per season. It is, however, much more than the €10-12m-a-year that Bayern are prepared to offer. According to the Express, United are willing to meet Goretzka’s wage demands in an effort to sign him on a free next summer. Whether that will be enough for us to land him remains to be seen.
