Transfer News: Clubs not looking to sign Manchester United duo Phil Jones and Andreas Pereira
Answering in a Q&A session, Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst revealed that no clubs are desperately pursuing a deal to land Phil Jones and Andreas Pereira.
According to ESPN (h/t Express) and as covered by WeAllFollowUnited last week, Jones and Pereira are among the 10 names that United are looking to offload this summer. But apparently, clubs aren’t that interested in the duo as of now.
Luckhurst was asked if fans can expect outgoings anytime soon. He answered saying that as of now, it seems improbable considering clubs aren’t really flocking around United to sign the English defender and the Brazilian playmaker.
“As you can tell from this week, no. I always thought this would be a dead week for United, with the training up at St Andrew’s. It’s kicked off elsewhere with Kane, Grealish, Lukaku et al. but United are still not at that stage where a club is desperate for Phil Jones or Andreas Pereira.”
Time to leave?
Jones has been out of action for a long time courtesy of an injury as well as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s continued reliance on Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, and Eric Bailly. Things will only get tougher for the 29-year-old centre-back upon the imminent arrival of Raphael Varane.
As for Pereira, he did not set the ground ablaze during his loan spell at Lazio last season. The 25-year-old has struggled for starts at Old Trafford ever since United signed him from PSV Eindhoven’s youth academy.
This might be the time for the duo to depart and whatever money United save and/or earn by their potential departures can then be put towards making up the deficits incurred when signing new players.
