Transfer News: Norwich hold talks with Manchester United over Brandon Williams loan
According to transfer news from Sunday Mirror (h/t Easter Daily Press), Norwich have held talks over a loan deal for Manchester United starlet Brandon Williams. The newly-promoted Canaries are said to have had positive talks over a loan after Southampton baulked at the £2m loan fee asked by United.
The 20-year-old enjoyed a breakout season in 2019/20 due to Luke Shaw’s injuries, However, he failed to hit the same heights last season given the form of Shaw and the arrival of Alex Telles. In fact, he made just 19 appearances last season, making a solitary assist. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Capable of playing on either flank, Williams can bomb up and down the pitch with relative ease. Williams is currently a part of United’s preseason camp as senior players are yet to fully return. He has featured in all three of the friendlies United have played so far. Nonetheless, it would appear that he has garnered quite some interest from Premier League sides.
Southampton were said to be after him initially. However, that deal has hit a roadblock as Manchester United are demanding a loan fee of £2million. That has put Norwich in the driving seat as they have held talks over a loan deal for Williams last week. However, it is unclear whether Norwich will stump up that kind of money.

Despite Telles’ injury, it is unlikely that Williams forces his way into the first team. Luke Shaw is also set to return from his injury. A decent player, it wouldn’t hurt United if Williams gets some sort of the first-team action at a Premier League side like Norwich. However, they might need to compromise over the loan fee.
