Transfer News: Manchester United reject loan offer for Andreas Pereira

According to journalist Ekrem Konur (h/t Caught Offside), Manchester United have rejected a loan offer from Lazio for Andreas Pereira. Instead, they will look to ask for £20m as they look to offload him on a permanent deal instead of another loan.

It’s hard to describe Pereira’s time at United but ‘underwhelming’ is as close a word there is. The Brazilian was once regarded as a bright talent to make the step up from the academy. He has also been out on two loan spells to Granada and Valencia, each with mixed results.

Hakan Calhanoglu of Milan tracked by Andreas Pereira of Manchester United during the 2019 International Champions Cup match between Manchester United and AC Milan.

Being deemed surplus to requirements, Pereira was allowed to leave for Lazio on loan last season. It did not do much good as he scored just the one goal but did get a decent amount of game time under his belt. He has currently linked up with the United side for preseason friendlies in the absence of the usual first-team players.

Now, Lazio have offered him a way out again with a loan deal. However, United have rejected the same as they don’t want another temporary deal. They want to cash in on him and have set a modest price tag of £20m. It is not clear at this point whether Lazio will pay that amount to sign him permanently during the summer.

United have a decent crop of central midfielders such as Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Fred, Scott McTominay, etc. at their disposal. Almost all of them are likely to be ahead of Pereira in the pecking order. United are probably right in looking at a permanent departure for him instead of another loan and the player is also at an age where he could use a permanent club to start afresh.
