Transfer News: Facundo Pellistri set to stay at Manchester United

According to transfer news from The Sun, Facundo Pellistri could be set for a stay at Manchester United. It was initially understood that another loan deal would be the best option. But his performance against Derby County in the pre-season friendly has prompted a rethink on the club’s part.

The winger spent the second half of last season on loan at Deportivo Alaves. He was signed by the club last summer but after the arrival of Amad Diallo in January, he was sent on loan to the La Liga side. It was decided that Pellistri would benefit from some first-team football after mostly playing for the U-23s during the initial months.

The South American made 12 appearances for Alaves as they narrowly avoided relegation. While he did not manage to get a goal or assist, his overall performance was satisfactory. Back at United now, Pellistri was handed a chance to impress against Derby County.

Capping it off with his first goal, Pellistri looked really solid in the 45 minutes he was handed. That cameo against Derby has forced the club to reassess the situation, meaning that he could yet stay back and fight for his place. Pellistri also expressed his desire to remain at the club.

Pellistri is very unlikely to get a crack at regular football if he stays at United this season. It’s optimistic to hope that he can prove that wrong, however, there are other factors to consider. United recently signed Jadon Sancho and the attack is pretty much set. There are far too many wingers in the side for Pellistri to compete with at this point.
