Real Madrid reject first written offer for Raphael Varane from Manchester United
According to transfer news from AS (h/t InsideFutbol), Real Madrid have rejected the first written offer Manchester United sent for Raphael Varane. United are said to have gone in with €45m for the Frenchman but Real are holding out for €70m. If that is not met, they are prepared to keep him.
United’s interest in the Real Madrid defender goes way back to 2011 when Sir Alex was in charge. Varane was then at Lens and was touted to move to a bigger club. Nonetheless, United missed out on his signing and he has gone on to represent Real Madrid for a decade.
Real are in a bit of a spot, with Varane in the last year of his current deal. They will have to sell him this summer or lose him for free in the next. United are hoping to take advantage of the same and sign the player they have kept an eye on for a while.
It would seem Manchester United have fallen short in their first offer for Varane as negotiations go on between the two clubs. A €45m bid was sent from United which was rejected right off the bat. The Blancos are believed to be asking for €70m and they will keep the player if that valuation is not met.

Real have the belief that they can convince the player to sign a new deal if they get more time. This would come as a blow for United who are ever so close to getting their target. Stumping up more money might just be the only way forward at this stage.
