Transfer News: Leeds to approach Manchester United for Daniel James
According to transfer news from TEAMtalk, Leeds are planning to approach Manchester United for Daniel James. Leeds United journalist Phil Hay spoke on his podcast about Marcelo Bielsa’s interest in the winger.
The Welsh winger has not had the best of times over the last two seasons at United. He has performed well in patches but has not been able to nail down a starting berth. Now with Sancho’s impending arrival at United, James could find his game time further reduced.
James does look in good touch after what fans saw in the Euros, where he was in action for Wales. Hence, it isn’t surprising that Leeds are prepared to reignite their interest in James. The Welshman was actually close to joining Leeds in 2019.
Leeds ready to revisit interest in Daniel James
Last summer, Bielsa tried to sign him on loan. However, Phil Hay spoke about Bielsa’s interest in the player and how another effort could be made this summer.
“That’s a question for Bielsa because Bielsa is forever interested in Dan James. You probably remember last summer that before they did the deal for Raphinha, they were looking into the possibility of bringing Dan James in on loan from Manchester United.
“I don’t think it was ever really a possibility because it didn’t seem as though Solskjaer wanted him to go. I get the feeling that Bielsa will consistently be interested in Dan James though. He very big on him when leeds nearly got him from Swansea.”

It is unlikely that James would displace any of the established starters any time soon. However, sitting on the benches for prolonged periods of time is also not helping him develop. A temporary move away to Leeds might do him some good.
