Transfer News: Manchester United enter the race for Merih Demiral
According to transfer news from Mirror, Manchester United have entered the race for Merih Demiral. The Turkish defender has grown frustrated with his situation at Juventus and could look to leave despite having three more years on his current deal. United are prepared to pay £38m for Demiral.
The 23-year-old started out at Turkish giants Fenerbahce and had stints at Sporting Lisbon, Alanyaspor and Sassuolo before joining Juventus. However, the Turkish international endured a difficult debut season in Turin, owing to a cruciate ligament knee injury.
Having been restricted to just eight appearances in 2019/20, Demiral has once again been blighted by injury problems. And as a result, he finds himself behind the likes of Leonardo Bonucci, Giorgio Chiellini and Matthijs de Ligt in the pecking order. That has left him frustrated and could see him consider an exit.
Everton and Arsenal were said to be the two clubs that had taken an interest in the 23-year-old Turkish defender. However, Manchester United are ready to get themselves into this race for Demiral. The Red Devils are willing to offer a handsome amount of £38m for the defender, who still has three years left on his current deal.

In all honesty, United might be taking a huge risk here. Demiral has been plagued with injuries over the last few seasons despite the occasional display of talent. Plus that sum they are willing to offer isn’t really cheap either. On the up, this deal hardly represents an upgrade on the options they already have at the club.
